Boating at Argenteuil, 1875

Details     Description

Artist Manet, Édouard In the summer of 1874, Monet, Renoir, and3„4Manet3„4were together at Argenteuil on the Seine near Paris and painted several portraits of each other with their families and friends. This picture of Claude Monet and his wife is one of the most vivid and suggests3„4Manet’s close ties with the Impressionists, even though he always refused to exhibit with them. From this date3„4Manet’s paintings become more and more marked by the broken color and bright palette of the work of his associates. Outdoor themes, unusual in his early paintings, become much more common, and his attitude is grayer and more carefree.
